Elevate Your Winter Wardrobe With These Essential Pieces
Winter is officially here, and while it might be tempting to simply grab your puffer jacket and some leggings, it doesn't have to be that way. In fact, you can stay warm and cosy without sacrificing style! Having the right pieces in your wardrobe makes getting dressed effortless.
In this post, I’m sharing 10 winter essentials I wear on repeat—keeping me both warm and stylish!
1. Statement Coats
Tailored midi or maxi coat
A statement coat is a must-have for elevating even the most casual outfits. It's often the first thing people notice about your look, so invest in something that speaks to your style. I recommend a structured, tailored midi or maxi coat. I personally prefer longer coats that avoid awkward knee-length cuts, as they create a sleek silhouette.
One of my favourites is a houndstooth coat from Mango, which serves as a sophisticated alternative to plain black.
Animal Print Coat
My second recommendation? Animal print coats! They’re a timeless classic that never goes out of style, and let’s be real, animal print was all the rage in 2024, plastered everywhere! I’ve thrifted a few incredible pieces that I adore, including one I found in a Parisian thrift shop Check out my Come Thrifting with Me in Paris vlog!
This is an oversized retro-style coat that gives serious ‘80s vibes. Then there’s the vintage fur coat I ‘borrowed’ from my mom’s closet—gurl, let me tell you, I feel like a full-on boss in it! It adds a touch of luxury and drama to my winter wardrobe, but I love dressing it down with casual outfits for a more effortless vibe.
If you're a puffer jacket lover, why not add a pop of colour? I recently picked up a vibrant purple puffer from TK Maxx, and it's both practical and stylish. It fits perfectly with my sporty-chic, relaxed aesthetic and adds a much-needed boost of dopamine to my winter wardrobe!
2. Winter Accessories
Accessories are the fun finishing touches to any winter look. I’m a self-proclaimed hat collector, and I can’t leave the house without one, especially since I have short hair. A stylish hat not only keeps you warm but also adds a unique touch to your outfit.
Scarves are another essential. They provide warmth and can also be a great way to introduce colour into your outfit. I love bold, colourful scarves that can brighten up any winter day. I love this big scarf in bright geometric prints from Tu Clothing. Don’t sleep on scarves, as they can instantly elevate your look
Cross Body Bags
Crossbody bags are practical in winter, allowing you to keep your hands free while still looking put-together. I have a lovely green crossbody bag that I picked up while traveling in Turkey. Even though my trip there wasn't the best, that bag is a constant reminder of my adventures!
3. Colourful Turtleneck Tops
A good turtleneck is a foundational piece in any winter wardrobe. It's versatile and can be layered under coats and jackets. I particularly love colourful turtlenecks that add a playful twist to my outfits. My white heat-tech fleece turtleneck from Uniqlo is a winter staple, keeping me warm and stylish.
4. Cosy Jumpers
Jumpers are essential for layering. I prefer natural fibres like cashmere, but I also have some great polyester options that keep me warm. One of my go-tos is a green jumper from Marks and Spencer that I wear constantly.
5. Corduroy
Corduroy is perfect for winter, offering both warmth and a retro vibe. I love thrifted corduroy pieces, like a yellow shirt I found in Paris and an orange skirt from a charity shop. These items are not only warm but also add a unique touch to my winter collection. I tend to wear these all year round to be honest.
6. Leather Pieces
Next on my list of winter essentials? Leather! I reach for it every winter without fail.
Durability, Style & Comfort
Leather is known for its strength and longevity, making it a staple in any wardrobe. It has that effortlessly classic and timeless appeal, and over time, it even molds to your body for a more comfortable fit.
That said, I actually own more faux leather than real leather—mainly because it still gives that sleek, stylish look while offering some protection from the elements. Plus, it’s way more affordable!
In my collection, I’ve got leather joggers (comfy and stylish), a leather jumpsuit that’s perfect for casual yet put-together looks, and a real leather blazer that I still need to get tailored—but haven’t gotten around to yet!
7. Boots
This is one area where I pay extra attention—because let’s be real, I hate being uncomfortable! I always make sure my boots suit the weather conditions, especially with the unpredictable UK climate.
I love chunky boots or anything with a slight platform for extra warmth and durability in the colder months. My knee-high boots have been a go-to for years—I wear them practically all year round. Then there are my cream combat boots (which I call my tractors)—perfect for those bad-weather days. Lately, I’ve also gone back to my trusty pointy-toe sock boots, a staple in my collection for years, and they’re super comfortable.
When it comes to winter styling, footwear can make or break an outfit—so don’t neglect it! Find comfortable pairs that work for both your style and your climate, and you’ll be set for the season.
8. Midi Skirts
I love wearing skirts in winter, especially midi skirts. They're feminine and can be stylishly worn with thermals underneath for added warmth. I have a couple of Uniqlo midi skirts that I reach for constantly.
9. Cardigans
You can’t sleep on cardigans when it comes to that cosy, warm winter feeling! Whether you’re heading to the office or working from home, having a stylish yet comfortable cardigan on hand is a must.
10. Versatile Denim Jeans
While I’m not a huge denim fan during winter, I do have some black cargo jeans that I’ve been wearing a lot. They offer a modern twist with their wide-leg fit and are easy to style with various tops.
These essentials will keep you warm and stylish throughout the winter months. Remember, layering is key, and don’t shy away from adding pops of colour and fun accessories.
